Early bird Glasto

Tickets for the 2009 Glastonbury Festival are to go on-sale six months in advance, Michael Eavis has announced. The news comes after a difficult year for the gathering, which failed to sell out this summer for the first time in recent memory. Festival chief Eavis today confirmed that 100,000 'early-bird' tickets will be made available in October, for a deposit of £50. The full amount will then be due on April 1, the traditional on-sale date, with a fine of £10 levied against those who do not complete their purchase. Eavis has also confirmed that ticket prices are to go up next year although he remains convinced that the demand is there to meet the hike. "Everybody wants to come - everywhere I go people say 'oh we should've been there and we're so fed up about it' because it was so good. "We actually did it (the 2008 festival) cheap - we couldn't cover the costs at that price. It wasn't a loss but it wasn't as good as it should've been", he explained.
